What Is Thermal Pest Control, and How Does It Work?
What is thermal pest control? What makes it better than using poison or chemicals to get rid of a bed bug infestation? At Bed Bug Heaters, we know that infestations are frustrating and expensive, and that finding the right remedy is difficult. Thermal pest control is a great option that saves you money and is safer than some of the more common methods. We can tell you exactly why in this blog.
Bed Bugs and High Heat Thermal pest control is an extremely effective way to get rid of bed bugs because they just can’t survive at higher temperatures. While bed bugs do seek out the warmth of your home, once it gets too hot, they either try to escape or end up dead. Compare this to chemical sprays and poison which, while effective, only cover a specific area. This allows the bed bugs to find somewhere to hide and survive. Getting to the bed bugs that have burrowed and made their home deep inside a mattress or bedding is almost impossible, so heating their habitat guarantees they’re taken care of. How Hot Does It Need to Get? Generally, a lethal temperature for bed bugs is between 117 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit, although some thermal pest control equipment will heat as high as almost 140. These high temperatures kill the bed bugs themselves and eliminate the eggs. Just like any other problem pest, the eggs cause the biggest issue. Finding and destroying the eggs means cutting off your infestation at the source. How Long Does It Take? Depending on the scale of your bed bug infestation, the time it takes to completely eliminate bed bugs will vary. You’ll need to allow some time for the equipment to reach the right temperature, but you won’t need to abandon your home for multiple days as with some treatments. You should also put some time aside before and after you actually start the process. This will let you sort through bedding and materials that might also be infested beforehand, tidy and organize things again afterward, and move things into and out of the rooms being treated.
